Cross of Glory - Our Vision, Purpose and Core Values

Vision
Becoming a Biblically functioning community

Purpose
Glorify God by leading people into becoming fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ.

Core Values
Even though our individual values may differ in relation to serving Christ, there are some values we hold in common.

   We believe that...

  • The Bible is the standard of truth and the final authority for all matters of Christian faith and conduct.

  • Lost people matter to God, and we therefore will maximize our opportunities to introduce them to Him.

  • The teaching of Biblical principles is essential to the development of fully devoted followers of Christ.

  • God alone is worthy of our worship, and we regularly gather as a body of believers to glorify and praise Him.

  • As members of His family, God calls us to appropriate His power through corporate prayer to change the world in which we live and the lives of those around us.

  • Devoted followers of Christ energize their daily lives and deepen their relationship with Him through regular personal prayer and Bible study.

  • Each follower of Christ possesses one or more spiritual gifts, and the church functions best when its people serve in capacities consistent with their individual gifts.

  • The development of Christ-centered, loving, authentic relationships among followers of Christ creates a community within which we grow, serve, support and challenge one another.

STATEMENT OF FAITH

THE WORD OF GOD
We believe that the Bible is the Word of God, fully inspired and without error in the original manuscripts, written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit and has supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct.
II Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21

THE TRINITY
We believe that there is one living and true God, eternally existing in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit; each is equal in every divine perfection and each executes distinct but harmonious offices in the work of creation, providence and redemption.
Genesis 1:1, 26; Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14

GOD THE FATHER
We believe in God the Father, an infinite personal spirit perfect in holiness, wisdom, power and love. We believe He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of people, hears and answers prayer and saves from sin and death all who come to Him through Jesus Christ.
Matthew 6:9; John 4:23

JESUS CHRIST
We believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only begotten Son, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit. We believe in His virgin birth, sinless life, miracles and teachings. We believe in His substitutionary atoning death, bodily resurrection, ascension into heaven, perpetual intercession for His people and personal and visible return to earth.
Matthew 1:18-25; John 1:1,14; Romans 5:8; Hebrews 4:14-15

THE HOLY SPIRIT
We believe in the Holy Spirit who came forth from the Father and Son to convict the world of sin, righteousness and judgment; and to regenerate, sanctify and empower all who believe in Jesus Christ. We believe the Holy Spirit indwells every believer in Christ; and He is an abiding helper, teacher and guide.
John 16:7-13; Romans 8:9,14-16, 26-27

REGENERATION
We believe that all people are sinners by nature and by choice and are, therefore, under condemnation. We believe that those who repent of their sins and trust Jesus Christ as Savior are regenerated by the Holy Spirit.
Genesis 3:1-7; John 3:3,16-17; Romans 3:23-24

THE CHURCH
We believe in the universal church, a living spiritual body of which Jesus Christ is the head and all regenerated persons are members. We believe in the local church, consisting of a company of believers in Jesus Christ, baptized upon a profession of faith and associated for worship, work and fellowship. We believe God has laid upon the members of the local church the primary task of giving the gospel of Jesus Christ to a lost world.
Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 2:41-42; I Corinthians 1:2

CHRISTIAN CONDUCT
We believe Christians should live for the glory of God and the well-being of all people; their conduct should be blameless before the world; they should be faithful stewards of their possessions and they should seek to realize for themselves and others the full stature of maturity in Christ.
Romans 12:1-2; I Corinthians 6:19-20

THE ORDINANCES
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ has committed the ordinances of baptism and Lord’s Supper to the local church. We believe Christian baptism is the immersion in water of a believer into the name of the Triune God. We believe the Lord’s Supper was instituted by Jesus Christ for the commemoration of His death. We believe these two ordinances are for believers in Jesus Christ and should be observed until His return.
Matthew 26:26-29, 28:19; Romans 6:3-4; I Corinthians 11:23-26

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
We believe that every human being has direct relations with God and is responsible to God alone in all matters of faith; each church is independent and must be free from interference by any ecclesiastical or political authority; therefore, the Church and State must be kept separate as having different functions with each fulfilling its duties free from dictation or patronage of the other.
Romans 14:10-11; Galatians 5:1; I Timothy 2:5

CHURCH COOPERATION
We believe local churches can best promote the cause of Jesus Christ by cooperating with one another in a denominational organization. Such an organization, whether a regional or a district conference, exists and functions by the will of the churches. Cooperation in a conference is voluntary and may be terminated at any time. Churches may, likewise, cooperate with inter-denominational fellowships on a voluntary, independent basis.
Romans 15:30-33; 2 Corinthians 8:1-7; Philippians 4:14-18

LAST THINGS
We believe in the personal and visible return of the Lord Jesus Christ to earth and the establishment of His kingdom. We believe in the resurrection of the body, the final judgment, the eternal life and joy of the righteous and the endless suffering of the wicked.
Matthew 25:46; Titus 2:13; I Thessalonians 4:16-17
